February 2020 Dividend Review

image

We are 2 months into the year and the market was marching and initially threw off any bad news that was heading its way then we hit the last week of February and The corona virus  finally started affecting the markets.  I think these things are overblown and the media makes more of it than they should. Some say why catch a falling knife other people I here say they wont invest till this is over. I will continue to buy a little here and a little there just like always and let the market work itself out.

This month saw me hit new high in my portfolio Value only to come crashing down but i am OK with that, because my money is buying  more stock and my dividends that are reinvested will do the same thing as long as the market is down.

My total for the month of is $509.98 If i were to go to my Durango Joes coffee shop at 2.97 a cup times 29 is $86.13.  That would  leave me with a nice $423.85 to put towards my bills.   I am going to eventually put it all back in the stock market, I brought in $17.58 a day.  This is a 1.97 percent decrease over last February. Total for year now I have brought in $1097.14 which drops our total per day  to $18.28.  Total lifetime tracked dividends is $25348.35.  The 12 month estimated dividend stands at $6582.84 based on this month, through the end of 2020. You can see the results after time a mix of dividend reinvestment and adding on my own has helped this tremendously. This month would pay most of my bills. Looking at the chart you can see what percentage of  dividend was from each company this month. You can look at past dividends here.

With $509.98 brought in this month and a total of $1097.14 I am 11.42  percent of my Bronze level goal of $9600.00.   My 12 month out  Prospective dividend rose from $8,782.52 to $8,963.54.

I have been making some changes to my Portfolio,  to streamline it into a portfolio that is driven by dividend increases. The portfolio will be better in the long run because of this. The portfolio page has been updated here.

For those that like total return I am  gonna start including it in here, I myself just care about the dividends but some like the total return

Since June 18 when i first moved my money  through Feb 29, 2020 I have a 11.18% S&p 500 TR is 13.04%  increase. Increase for Feb 1st-Feb 29th i have a -9.03% the S&P 500 is -8.23%. Increase from Jan 1st -Feb 29 -10.19%  S&p 500 TR is -8.27%

Feb 2020 Stock Buys

Another month has passed and what would a month be without a buy or 2? wether the market is up down or sideways  i like to do a little buying. since moving to Merrill Edge i have done buying in smaller increments as there has been no trading fees except for on sells some small fees which are required. I actually like this approach as it gets me into a position sooner rather than later and if i waited i might find something else i liked better. That would be a good problem to have.

Smaller amount of purchases this month but they delivered a bang for my buck. This added $134.73 total to my dividends. I spent $2689.56 a lot  of this was spent this past week as the market was falling, some say it is a falling knife but i say good buying opportunities. Only time will tell I did alright during the 2008-2009 buy oppurtunity and i expect to do ok on this one also if it prolongs a while. I will continue to do what i do and that is buy stocks whether the market is up or down.

4 Recent Dividend Raises

image Every so often after i have invested in a company they reward me with a raise. sometimes those raises or small and other times they are better. but they are raises none the less. When i think about complaining about a raise being small i just have to remember it could have been cut. I have experienced dividend cuts in the past and  I will in the future just have to take that one raise or cut at a time and see if i am getting a good bang for my buck.

First raise was PPL

Shares of PPL Corp. PPL, +0.59% edged up 0.3% in premarket trading Friday, after the utility reported a fourth-quarter profit that beat expectations but revenue that missed, and announced a 1/4-cent dividend increase. Net income fell to $364 million, or 48 cents a share, from $415 million, or 57 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding non-recurring items, adjusted earnings per share rose to 57 cents from 52 cents, above the FactSet consensus of 53 cents. Revenue increased to $1.95 billion from $1.94 billion, but was below the FactSet consensus of $2.05 billion. The company expects 2020 EPS of $2.40 to $2.60, which surrounds the FactSet consensus of $2.52, while lowering its 2021 guidance range to $2.40 to $2.60 from $2.50 to $2.80. PPL increased its quarterly dividend to 41.50 cents a share from 41.25 cents, with the new dividend payable April 1 to shareholders of record on March 10. Based on Thursday’s closing price of $36.28, the new annual dividend rate implies a dividend yield of 4.58%, compared with the yield for the SPDR Utilities Select Sector ETF XLU, -0.18% of 2.73% and the S&P 500’s SPX, -1.05% implied yield of 1.79%. PPL’s stock has gained 7.9% over the past three months while the utilities ETF has climbed 11.6% and the S&P 500 has gained 9.0%. Read the rest here.

This dividend increase is a 0.6% increase.  I own 84 shares of PPL  so this raise will add $0.84 cents a year to my dividends.

The next raise is MPW and it is  the second raise in the last 6 months from MPW

Read more here.

This is a nice raise and 4 percent to boot. I don’t own a lot but i will take any raise i can get. I own 40 shares of MPW and this  gives me $1.60  a year extra.

The third stock that raised was PEG.

The Board of Directors of Public Service Enterprise Group today declared a quarterly common stock dividend for the first quarter of 2020 of $0.49 per share payable on March 31, 2020 to shareholders of record on March 10, 2020. The 4th stock was KO

JAN 2020 Dividend Review

monopoly_go

Monopoly was always fun collecting money, what would be better than that? Hmmmm. wait dividend investing is because its real money and real money always is better than fake money especially when you are beating inflation. We are looking forward to a great year and to greatly increase our dividends in the upcoming years. It is with great enjoyment that i enjoy reading all of your dividend reports also, as i enjoy putting this one out.

My total for the month of is $587.16 If i were to go to my Durango Joes coffee shop at 2.97 a cup times 31 is $92.07.  That would  leave me with a nice $495.09 to put towards my bills.   I am going to eventually put it all back in the stock market, I brought in $18.94  a day.  This is a 34.53 percent increase over last January. I bought $10637.57 in stocks and mutual funds the big USHYX purchase was a swap of some shares from USAGX which does not pay a dividend.   I want to slowly get rid of USAGX and the rest will go into buying stocks. The smaller USHYX purchase is an automatic investment that happens on the 15th of each month. i just recently raised that to $100.00 a month.   The drop in stocks last week helped me as i was not planning to add anything but squirrel.   Total dividends added was $586.90. The Portfolio page has been updated.

CVX Dividend Raise

image Another dividend raise. This time CVX, i love it when i give a company some of my money and they reward me for that trust, and this is one of those times.

Chevron Corp. CVX, -3.82% said late Wednesday its board of directors has authorized a dividend increase of more than 8% to $1.29 a share. The dividend is payable March 10 to shareholders of record as of Feb. 18. Shares of Chevron were flat in the extended session after ending the regular trading day down 0.7%. Chevron and Exxon Mobil Corp. XOM, -4.12% are slated to report fourth-quarter earnings before the bell on Friday amid concerns for reduced demand for oil. Read more Here.

Lots to love about this raise. Lots  to love about any company that gives me money when i trust them with my money.  These raises  will eventually help put me on pace  to be able to pay every bill  and the ones i inherit, when i take over the house. I own 24 shares of CVX so that gives me a raise of $9.60 a year. I am making good progress, last year when the CVX raise was anounced it put me at around $25.00 dollars in raises this year i am way ahead of that.

This is also the 200th post since I have started posting which is another milestone.
